so a couple of months back i was at work and putting out new cd's and noticed the soundtrack to About A Boy. i didn't know what it was or was about but it was all compleatly done by Badly Drawn Boy. at this i was impressed and so i says to myself "self i am simply going to have to see that film."

i saw a couple of previews for it and ok it had huge grant, but it could be worse....quite honestly though, i've never really seen anything with huge grant so i can't say i don't like him i just know he was in knotting hill which looked repulsive.... anyways. the previews for this film looked like typical lovestory type film.

problems inserted here, ok so it isn't in my typical fashion to be interested in a typical lovestory movie and i wasn't sure if the fact that the soundtrack was done by someone i liked would make it worth it, after all i could just skip the film and buy the sound track. BUT, i saw a couple of previews, and read a couple of reviews and it actually didn't seem all that bad.

me and my girlfriend have a very interesting thing about communication, yes we talk, but we are both just way too passive, it's like sure i've wanted to see this film but i wasn't about to come right out and say hey i really want to see this film. instead i mention it when i find reviews or see previews while watching simpsons, ...like i said it isn't typical mark fashion to say hey i want to see this movie lovestory, how ever sometimes i do enjoy a good lovefilm the whole romantic side needs to be nurtured from time to time...

the last couple of films me and ashley(my girlfriend for those of you who are unaware) have seen are Insomnia, Leon The Professional, Star Wars, BladeII(sucked), Ronin, Novicane.... and a long list along the same lines of action killing or just off films. Ashley never pushes for girly movies infact she suggests violence sometimes which is way totally cool and alright with me so i don't have to fake interest. but like i said our communication thing, it's like i don't know if she just doesn't care for girly movies or is just being way nice and not asking me to take her to them so what do i then do about this potential loveflick? she doesn't suggest it and i do and it turns out to be a chickflick i am then stuck being drug to all the chick flicks she has been harboring feelings to see and my manhood is lost.

ok i'm rambling in cirles now so i'll move right along.
we are bored and i've made hits of interest to see said movie, nothing else looks appealing and there is nothing else to do....did i mention i saw a music video from the film and saw the duck scene which just made me want to see it for that if nothing else (to justify it to myself and everyone else if it turned out to be a chickflick). so we went to the theater and watched it, and weather ashley was enjoying it or not i was. it was actually a rather good film, funny and yes there was a lovestory aspect of it, that was not the driving force behind the film. the music of course was fantastic and worked very much like cat stevens soundtrack to harald and maude.

i bought the soundtrack at work tonight and gave starbuck the finger when he started to give me guff for it. and told him that badly drawn boy does good work and that the film was not bad, he continued to mock so i pushed him down the back stairs....ok so we don't have back stairs at work and i didn't push him down i just thought this entry could use a little spice about now.

it's just another thing that makes me feel old, things like that movie looking appealing to me, and the new belle and sebastion being on top of my cd's to get ahead of a hundred new loud hard thrash metal hardcore bands but atleast i always have Grand Theft Auto III on my computer to remind me how much fun sensless violence can be.

i guess somethings are just so timeless that no matter what age you are they never get old.

so to recap: 1)About A Boy was a good film 2)said good film has a good soundtrack 3)the screams of bystandards and the crunch of bones under two tons of steel never gets old.
