terrence and myself where discussing this a couple of days back. look at the northeast black out stuff. new york and some other places lost power for maybe a couple of days. the media makes them out to be heros of adversity, over coming the great task it is to live without electricity for a day or two. california was blacking out at random all over the state for unknown amounts of time for an extended period of time(months). businesses lost all kinds of money students had their educations interrupted mid lecture and many a night i had to go to bed at a reasonable hour because there was no power to stay up and watch t.v. was i a surviving hero and champion of affliction in the eyes of the media and the nation? no. because it was pre 9-11 for one and b) it was happening in california (which has land mass enough to smother the north east in it's sleep with a pillow). yet another reason why i dislike the media. |
